Cellular Manufacturing is a Lean Manufacturing Concept similar to One Piece Flow but refers to the plant layout. Essentially, following the Cellular Manufacturing Concept is to arrange equipment and workstations in an efficient sequence that promotes a continuous and smooth movement of inventory and materials for production to produce products using One Piece Flow. It is essential in this system to minimize transport or waiting time.
Cellular and Single Piece Flow are two components in the Lean Manufacturing System that complement one another. In this system the products simply transfer from one piece of equipment to the next on the same production line minimizing transport and batching delays.
